Ears in the turrets hear
Hands grumble on the door,
Eyes in the gables see
The fingers at the locks.
Shall I unbolt or stay
Alone till the day I die
Unseen by stranger-eyes
In this white house?
Hands, hold you poison or grapes?

Beyond this island bound
By a thin sea of flesh
And a bone coast,
The land lies out of sound
And the hills out of mind.
No birds or flying fish
Disturbs this island’s rest.

Ears in this island hear
The wind pass like a fire,
Eyes in this island see
Ships anchor off the bay.
Shall I run to the ships
With the wind in my hair,
Or stay till the day I die
And welcome no sailor?
Ships, hold you poison or grapes?

Hands grumble on the door,
Ships anchor off the bay,
Rain beats the sand and slates.
Shall I let in the stranger,
Shall I welcome the sailor,
Or stay till the day I die?

Hands of the stranger and holds of the ships,
Hold you poison or grapes?

It was very hard trying to find a  Dylan Thomas poem that i didn't like, but i found this one. This is by far my least favorite Dylan Thomas poem because of it's lack of ryhm or assonance. This makes it so the poem not as fun to read and in turn making it harder fot the average reader to understand what he is talking about . I also do not like the story of the poem and how it about a guy who is on his own island and contemplating about whether or not he should try to get their attention rather than dying alone. If i were on that island i would have got their attention and taken my chances, because i would rather be killed then slowly going insane and killing myself with a primative weapon. Even though i do not like the idea of this poem is is still a very well written poem. Dylan Thomas wrote many great poems, but to me this is my least favorite.

A record of his struggle from darkness to some measure of light
