Dylan's Thomas's most famous poem
Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night

This was written for his father, David John, as he was dying. Dylan lived through two world wars which only fueled his alcohol problem. Coming out of this background he wrote most of his poetry about the flow of life often providing psychological advice seeing as how Sigmund Freud had just previously started psychology.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Do not go gentle into that good night is my favorite Dylan Thomas poem and the reason behind that is because of the ryhm and how much he felt for his father or whomever he wrote this for. During the entire poem each stanza ends with rage, rage against the dying of the light or do not go gentle into the night, which are very two very different endings for one poem. Also you can tell when he says rage, rage against the dying of the light he is talking about a person who has done something great during their lives and should rage against their life actually meant something. Then when Thomas he eds a stanza with "do not go gentle into that good night," he is talking about a person who has not done a lot in their lives, so unlike the others who have done things these people have regrets on not doing enough or not doing something they wanted to do in their lives. This is my favorite poem because it is saying you have to do what you want to do in your life and don't hold yourself back.

A record of his struggle from darkness to some measure of light
